This is the Music webpage built and designed by Steve Holcomb
for Millers Creek Intermediate School, 2000-2001.
This is a Copy. The original site no longer exists.
So much effort went into it. I don't want to lose it. |
What Do
Students Do In Music?
Millers Creek School students
in 6th, 7th and 8th grades
participate in a variety
of music activities.
Music class is no longer
just the "singing class"
of years ago.
True, there is a lot
of singing!
But singing is one of many
activities students experience
in Music. |
Students receive
basic instruction on
how to play the guitar.
Students will be provided
a guitar
to play in class by the Music
teacher.
6th grade students learn to
play "simple C" and "simple G7" chords
on the guitar and play as
they sing
"Tom Dooley" or "Mary Ann".
7th grade students learn traditional
"A", "E7" and "D" folk
chords to play as they sing
"The
Rose" or "America the Beautiful".
8th grade students learn the
moveable
"F" chord often used in today's
music.
Students experience playing
a guitar with no expectation
of becoming a great guitar
performer. |

 |
 |
Music students
may also receive basic
instruction on playing the
recorder.
Students learn to read rhythms
and notes on the treble music
staff.
Students play simple tunes
in class
based on notes they have
learned in class.
Students are encouraged to
bring their own recorders if
they own one, but recorders
will be provided
without charge to the student
for use in class.
Students experience what it
is like to play a woodwind instrument
with no expectation that
they will be ready to perform a public concert. |
Music students
may receive basic instruction
on playing piano or other
keyboard instruments.
Students perform tunes in
class on the piano
or keyboard based on the
notes they have learned.
Students experience playing
a keyboard instrument with no expectation
that they will become a great
keyboard player. |
INTERACTIVE
PIANO
(This
may take a little time to load and react.)
Move
the mouse over the piano keys and
the
note names should appear on the key.
Click
on the piano key and
the
note should sound out.
If the
interactive piano works or looks improperly
blame
the designer: Mr. Steve Holcomb, (music teacher 1994-2001)
who
created this for Millers Creek School, December, 2000. |
Music students
learn about the music instuments.
Students will learn to identify
common instruments, their family,
how their sounds are made
and the sound each instrument creates.
7th grade students will also
explore music instruments from
the Middle East, Japan, India
and Africa.
This enriches what they learn
in Social Studies.
Students explore instruments
of the String, Woodwind,
Brass, Percussion, and Keyboard
families. |
Music students
watch musicals and shows.
6th grade students watch
"The
Sound of Music".
7th grade students watch
"Oliver!".
8th grade students watch
"West
Side Story".
Students may watch
"CATS",
"The Nutcracker Ballet",
"Riverdance"
or
"Stomp Out Loud"
Students may also watch
"The Grammy Awards",
"The Billboard Awards",
"The Country Music Association
Awards"
or
"The American Music Awards"
which, of course, will be
edited for content before class presentation. |
Millers Creek
Music class students may be
asked to perform at PTO meetings.
Music students will perform
at the annual PTO Talent Show
performed in the John A.
Walker Community Center in April or May. |
Music
students also perform plays in class.
6th grade students
may present
"Pinocchio,
Don't!" or "Robin Hood".
7th grade students
may present
"The Phantom
of the Music Room" or "Those Who Have Gone Before".
8th grade students
may perform
"Freedom"
or "Upside of Down". |
Music students
learn about the life and times of classical composers:
Bach,
Handel,
Haydn,
Mozart,
Beethoven,
Schubert,
Brahms,
Mahler,
Rossini,
Wagner,
Tchaikovsky
and others.
So, Music class at Millers
Creek School is
a lot more than just "singing
class". |
